Have questions about your donation? We cover all the stuff you need to know below.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Q:

How do I change or cancel my recurring contribution?

A:

Every month we send a receipt for your recurring contribution via email. By clicking the link we include in that receipt you’ll be able to change the number of months remaining for the contribution or cancel it altogether. For example, you should see a message like the one below, followed by a link.

Be sure to add info@actblue.com to your address book to ensure that your monthly receipt does not filter into your spam folder. Unfortunately we cannot change the amount of the contribution, the day of the month it is charged, or the recipient. If you’d like to change any of these factors, you can cancel your recurring contribution and sign up for a new one that reflects the changes you’d like to make.

Q:

How do I update my credit card and personal information in my account?

A:

To update your credit card or personal information in your Express Donor Profile, you should first start by logging into ActBlue. Just head over to https://secure.actblue.com/ where you’ll see a blue “Log In” option in the right hand corner of the screen. Click there and you’ll be brought to a page where you can enter the email or password associated with your account.

Then, click on “Your Account” in the green bar along the top of your home page and choose “Express Donor Profile” from the drop down menu.

You can then edit your personal information, including your address, contact information, or preferred credit card options.

Updating your credit card information in your account will not update the payment information on your recurring donations; these must be updated separately. We’ll explain how to do that in the question below.

Q:

How do I update my credit card and personal information for my recurring contribution?

A:

Your recurring contribution receipt contains a link that allows you to modify your payment information. Clicking that will bring you directly to a page where you can update the credit card for a specific recurring charge. For example, if you have a recurring contribution and your credit card expires, it will be helpful to follow this link. If you have any trouble with this, always feel free to contact us at info@actblue.com.

You can also do this by logging into your Express Donor Profile to access your Recurring Contribution history.

Once you log in you should click the My Contributions tab in the left hand corner of the page.

You’ll then see a list of options in orange where you can choose “Recurring Contributions.”

You’ll be brought to a list of your recurring contributions with the option to edit them.

Just choose “edit” next to the contribution you’d like to update and scroll to the bottom of the page. You’ll see this prompt:

Click either option to open up a menu and edit your contribution information.

Personal information such as the contact info and billing address associated with a specific recurring contribution cannot be changed. To update your personal info for a recurring donation, you can cancel your current donation and set up a new one with the correct info.

If you have questions or need help, you can contact us here.

Q:

How do I view my contribution history?

A:

If you are an ActBlue Express User, you can view your entire contribution history by logging into your ActBlue account at https://secure.actblue.com/login. You’ll see a button labeled "Contribution History" on your homepage. (If you are not signed up for an Express account, you will not be able to view your contribution history.)

Clicking that button allows you to view the dates, amounts, and recipients of your donations.

If you click on “Contribution Summary” you’ll see a summary of all your donations to campaigns or committees and your total amount donated since the creation of your Express account.

Q:

Why are some of my donations missing from my contribution history?

A:

Your donations will not be automatically included in your contribution history unless you are logged into your account at the time of your donation.

Feel free to contact us at info@actblue.com and we’d be happy to manually add your donations to your contribution history.

Q:

I accidentally created more than one account under different email addresses. Can I merge these accounts?

A:

Unfortunately, we are unable to merge Express accounts. We encourage you to pick one account to use going forward and save the login information for the other account for your records.

Q:

I’m having trouble making a donation. What should I do?

A:

First, you should check to see if your internet browser is up to date - this varies by browser but is typically found under “Preferences” -> “Check for updates”. If your internet browser is out of date, switching to a different browser may also solve the problem.

Then, you should try to clear your browser’s cache, which acts as a record or memory of the sites you’ve visited, (this will also typically be found under “Preferences”) before attempting to make your donation again.

If you continue to experience difficulties and would like to make a donation over the phone, feel free to call us at (617) 517-7600 and we’d be happy to assist you.

Q:

Why was my donation flagged for review?

A:

ActBlue uses sensitive automatic fraud detection software that is designed to protect and secure your personal information. The software pulls a number of contributions each day for manual review by one of our staff members. You’ll receive another email notification once the contribution has been reviewed and processed successfully.

Q:

How do I unsubscribe from your email list?

A:

You can unsubscribe from ActBlue’s email list via this link: http://action.actblue.com/page/unsubscribe

Please keep in mind that we do not send out fundraising emails on behalf of any campaigns or organizations. If you are receiving any other political emails from candidates or organizations you will need to unsubscribe from them individually. There is typically an “Unsubscribe” link or button included at the bottom of those emails. We do not share your email address with anyone but the campaign or organization you donate to.

Q:

How do I change my password?

A:

You can reset your password here: https://secure.actblue.com/reset. You’ll receive an email asking you to confirm your reset request, and then you can create a new password and log in to ActBlue.

If you’ve been locked out of your account or if you need any assistance, feel free to contact us at info@actblue.com.

Q:

I made a mistake while donating. Who should I contact?

A:

You can email our customer service team or call us at 617-517-7600 and we’d be happy to help get that taken care of. We’re in the office Monday-Friday from 9 AM - 5 PM EST. We return every phone call and email that we receive, and make every effort to do so within the same day.

Q:

Where does my money go?

A:

It goes directly to the candidate or cause you specify when you give. Campaigns and organizations use our fundraising software to enable you to make your contribution. We act as the conduit for your contribution, passing the donation on. The cost of processing the contribution (mostly credit card fees), comes out of your contribution. We are legally required to charge that fee.

As a non-profit, we use tips from donors to pay our bills. We don’t profit from the contributions we process. You can add a tip on the contribution form when you enter your credit card information.

Q:

How do I know your site is secure?

A:

ActBlue is PCI compliant, which means that we’ve passed rigorous security tests to ensure that all donor credit cards are fully protected. We’re required to conduct quarterly security tests and annual external audits, so we’re always thinking about security. You can click on the green security certificate that appears in front of our web address if you’d like to learn more.

Q:

Are there limits on how much I can contribute?

A:

Yes. Because it takes time and money to process a donation, there's a $1 minimum on all contributions made via ActBlue.

Contributions made via the ActBlue website are the same as those made in other ways (e.g. through the mail, at a fundraiser, etc.) and are counted against relevant contribution limits.

Contribution limits for 2015-16 are as follows. (Note that some differ from the 2014 limits due to the FEC's adjustments for inflation.)

  • U.S. Presidential Candidates — $2,700 per election to each candidate. (Primary and general elections are counted as separate elections, even if the primary is uncontested.)
  • U.S. House and Senate candidates — $2,700 per election to each candidate. (Primary and general elections are counted as separate elections, even if the primary is uncontested.)
  • Federal PACs (e.g. ActBlue) — $5,000 per year to each PAC.
  • National Party Committees (e.g. the DNC, DSCC, DCCC) — $33,400 per year to each national party committee.
  • State and Local Party Committees — Combined $10,000 limit for party committees in each state.

For state and local campaigns, the contribution limits vary by state or municipality. These limits are placed on contributions to the state or local party's federal account.

We’ve built ActBlue so that each contribution form is pre-set to accommodate each jurisdiction’s contribution limits, but if you have follow up questions, you can be in touch with us.

Note: There is no limit on the amount you can donate to superPACs or social welfare organizations listed on ActBlue.

Q:

Are my donations tax deductible?

A:

No, political donations to federal candidates and committees are not tax deductible, whether they are made online or in person. Likewise, gifts and contributions to social welfare organizations and (c4)s are not deductible as charitable contributions, nor as a business expense to the extent that the funds might be used for lobbying activities.

Q:

How can I fundraise for my favorite candidate(s)?

A:

You can create a contribution form for your favorite candidate or a group of candidates. Just log in to your account and then search for the first person you’d like to fundraise for in the ActBlue directory. Once you’ve found your candidate, click the orange “Create Page” button next to their name.

Fill out all of the prompts (check out the Contribution Forms section for more tips).

If you’d like to add other candidates or organizations to the contribution form, you can click on the Add tab and find them in the directory. We recommend sticking to just one or a few candidates. If you’re fundraising for a group, make sure you give a reason why all of the candidates deserve support.

Once you’re done you can share the link to your form with family and friends. Personal pitches work really well in persuading people who they should vote for and support.

Q:

What's with this missing/broken link?

A:

Whoops! Please let us know. To be really nice, try to find the correct link and include that in your message, too.
